If your vehicle is a 2007 model or newer, it’s equipped with a system designed for increased safety and fuel economy.
Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems provide drivers with an alert when one or more of the vehicle’s tires is low. Low tire pressure makes the engine work harder and decreases fuel economy, while traveling on under-inflated tires is a factor that increases the risk of a blowout or other major tire failure and subsequent crash.
Some TPMS sensors use battery power to transmit tire pressure data to the vehicle’s computer. The batteries were designed to last about 100,000 miles or 10 years, but some sensors are only lasting five to seven years.
Ask your technician today if your TPMS sensors are functioning properly.
